Summary of Responsibilities:  

The role involves managing a busy caseload working with a range of students providing specifically tailored Mental Health and Wellbeing one to one support and non-subject specific support strategies, which helps students, address the barriers to learning created by sometimes complex conditions including mental health conditions, Autism and ADHD.

You will build professional working relationships with a case load of students combining a person centred approach with an understanding of the student’s condition, to support students with their academic progress. Duties will vary greatly and will be student specific but could include activities such as providing study skills that will assist students to develop their coping strategies to manage anxiety and concentration difficulties, confidence building, planning, motivation time management, prioritising workload and preparation for academic deadlines creating a suitable work-life balance.

This support will help them to develop as independent learners and maintain the necessary focus on academic progress despite the distraction’s imposed by their disabilities. Mentors are not advocates or counsellors

Suitable candidates will be available for flexible, term-time working for the academic year.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree qualification (Level 6) or equivalent
  • Practical experience of working with different learning needs and those with mental health difficulties.
  • MUST have membership of (at least) one of the following professional body organisations:

•Association of Child Psychotherapists

•British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) accreditation

•British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) individual or MBACP

•British Psychoanalytic Council Member

•Chartered British Psychological Society (BPS) member or IAPT register or graduate BPS member and PG qualification in Psychology/mental heath

•Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) accredited member

•FDAP National Counsellor Accreditation Certificate (NCAC)

•General Medical Council – Psychiatry

•Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) – Arts therapist/ occupational therapist/ practitioner psychologist/social worker in England

•Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) accredited member

•Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC) – mental health nurse/ community mental health nurse/ psychiatric nurse

•Social worker body for Scotland SSSC/ Wales CCWales/ NI (NISCC)

•UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) full clinical individual member

•University Mental Health Advisors Network (UMHAN) Member

Candidates will be expected to provide proof of the professional membership before interviews can take place.
